The King George's Hall in the centre of Blackburn is home to the regular smoothfm Soul Nights, held five times a year (9 p.m. till 3 a.m.) with regular DJs in the Northern Room including Ginger Taylor, Terry Davies and Neil Jones. Richard Searling is a regular in the Modern Room.
The venue has three rooms (also catering for Modern and Funk), but the main attraction is the beautiful sprung dance floor of the Kathleen Ferrier room, up the stairs, home to the Northern Room. The venue is prone to attendance from handbaggers, but they're usually kept in check. If your tastes are good traditional Northern, then it's well worth going here.
For further information, log onto the King George's Hall website, which also has directions on how to get to the venue.
It is worthwhile booking tickets in advance, as quite often the venue can be sold out a week or so before the event.
A few tips, it's cheaper:
(a) booking tickets direct from the Box Office on (01254)-582582 (Open 9-5 Monday to Thursday, 9-6 on Friday, 10-4 on Saturday) rather than going through Ticketmaster
(b) paying by Debit card (Switch/Maestro) as Credit cards carry a surcharge
(c) picking up tickets on the night, rather than having them sent through the post, but make sure you bring your credit/debit card with you on the night to verify the purchase transaction. Please note, the Booking Office is open late on Soul Nights for the collection of tickets.
